Description
»Pre-Modern Ritual Practice in Intercultural Settings«
The pre-modern society of princes was shaped and constituted by a common language of signs, gestures, and rituals. By focusing on acts of symbolic communication performed on the ever blurry Eastern frontiers of the society of princes, the essays collected in this volume examine the potential of symbolic communication in intercultural diplomacy between western- and middle-European powers on the one hand, and the Grand Duchy of Moscow and the Ottoman Empire on the other.
