Studies in history and German language and literature at Regensburg, Munich and Vienna; 2002 doctorate at Munich on the formation of aristocratic groups and kingship using the example of the Counts of Sulzbach; 2008 habilitation at Munich; 2010-2011 chair for medieval history at the Catholic University of Eichstätt-Ingolstadt; from 10/2011 chair for medieval history I and director of the Department of Regional History at the Albert-Ludwigs-University Freiburg. Member of the board of the Commission for Historical Regional Studies in Baden-Württemberg, project leader of SFB 948 Heroes – Heroizations – Heroisms.
