Reinhold Zilch studied economics and obtained his doctorate in financial history in 1976 at the Humboldt University. Since 1979 he began to work at the Academy of Sciences of the GDR with publications focused on WWI. In 1989/90 he initiated the edition »Protocols of the Prussian State Ministry« at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences (BBAW) and after 1994 managed this project for several years. He than participated in the project »Prussia as a cultural state«, before leaving the BBAW in 2015. Between 2018 and 2021, while working on a DFG-project on G. v. Jagow, he was attached to the Historical Commission of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences. Among his many publications are several on numismatics. He has been a member of the Leibniz Society for Sciences in Berlin since 2017.
